To road trip or not to road trip?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I own a 2004 Honda Odyssey. It currently has
164,000 miles on it. I recently took it to the
mechanic because I knew it needed struts. They
called me and gave me a list of items that needed
work. All Motor mounts [2 had been replaced 2 yrs
ago], struts [i knew], tries [i knew], engine filter,
cabin filter, fluids flushed [power steering, brake,
transmission, oil change], timing belt [ has been
replaced at 85,000 miles already], rear brakes and
machine rotors [did this already], fluid leaking from
steering boot, right side cv axle rack and pinion
leaking a little out of both sides. I told the
mechanic I plan to take a road trip to Florida next
week, I live in Texas. He told me I should rent a car
but with proper maintenance shouldn't my minivan
run like a teenager? What work needs to be done
before my trip and what work can wait? Or should I
take another vehicle?

I wouldn't take a big trip on bad tires or bad brakes. Changing the fluids is also a good idea before leaving, and keep an eye on fluid levels. The leaky rack/pinion is something you want to watch. Bring a couple bottles of power steering fluid/ATF/oil/coolant with you.

Thank you all very much. I will do all of the above. So is my understanding correct that the rest of the work can wait till we come back?

KenF thank you I will ask my husband to pick up the extra supplies today.☺
