Fuel Pump??

Asked by tca679 May 19, 2013 at 08:16 PM about the 2002 Dodge Dakota Sport Quad Cab 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

When I try to start my 2002 dodge dakota it wont start. Turns over fine and the fuel gauge reads empty which i know is incorrect. Had a buddy beat on bottom of fuel tank while turning over and it dtartrd and ran for a minute before dying. Do you think it is the fuel pump?

I'd start with the Black battery cable, first insure that the battery is newer than five years old...hose down the battery removing corrosion, the black wire attaches to the frame/chassis with a bold 1/0 cable and a bolt, wirebrush the contact point to the frame and the lug and bolt...also the 1/0 cable going to the motor....with SOLID ground your fuel pump may behave itself...electric fuel pumps are usually like....kaput, nada mas, comin on again tells me it does not have solid power to it...your buddy refreshed the ground connections by pounding on it~
