Question type: General

I tried cleaning the battery terminals - I tried boosting it - I even tried put it in 2nd gear and rocking the truck and still nothing - this is the 2nd winter I have trouble like this - I am starting to believe it has something to do with the transmission - is this possible ?

I don't think it would be the transmission, sounds more like a dirty battery cable, weak battery or ur starter is dragging (bad starter). Check the battery cable at the starter end, they get corrouded and makes ur starter pull high amperage

Does the engine crank normally on cold mornings when it will not start? Or does the starter seem a little weak? Do not use or depress the gas pedal when starting.

Try turning the key to the on position for five seconds then off. Do this three times then try to start. If it starts suspect fuel pump, although your vehicles seems new for this problem. Also, depending on how cold it gets, the oil may be thickening up and hampering proper operation.

you may be right but all I hear is a click when I turn the key and then nothing else, it won't even turn over

If you have voltage at tbe starter, momentarily jump it from one of the 2 large screws at the starter, one being the cable coming from battery, the second one is to the starter itself, it will spin your starter but will not start the engine bacause your solenoid is not being used, this is just to troubleshoot starter solenoid, if it does spin when you jump it, replace starter or remove and replace solenoid only.

Check the battery with a multi-meter. It should read 12.5 volts. HOwever, it could read the proper voltage but not have the amperage to turn the engine. Batteries are rated by their cold cranking amps. Batteries do get weak in winter and loose amperage.
