Clutch or trans issues

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 13,300 on my car.  I was driving the other day  downshifted from 6th to 5th (manual trans) and let off the clutch  5 seconds later the car shuttered and it shook the whole car, not like a wheel or clutch shudder. I choked it up to a rough patch and bump in the road i didn't see as it was dark.  When i cam to traffic light and tried to downshift I found my clutch was not disengaging now.  If this were not under warrenty I would pull it apart and inspect it myself.  The dealer got it yesterday and only told me they have to pull it all the way apart and split the motor and trans.  Does this sound like a failed slave cylander??
is this covered by the cars bumper to bumper warrenty, or is that with the clutch warrenty?

Any help would be great.   Thanks

Sounds like an issue with the slave cylinder and it would be covered under the drive train warranty.

definitely an issue with a clutch component of some kind. it should be covered under factory warranty regardless of what it is. virtually everything is covered by hyundai for at least 1 year/12,000 miles.

1, its your clutch or throwout bearing/slave cylinder 2, with 13k on i it most definitely should be covered by the drive train warranty, that is if its not deemed the owners fault

Just got it back from the dealer. The disk blew apart. Covered by warranty.

I hope they sort the problem out once and for all or replace the car all together under the lemon law.

I have a 2013 non-turbo Veloster w/ tech package and I've had nothing but problems since I bought it in the end of July 2012 (1.5 months ago!). I'll be driving and then if I go up a slight hill (on a highway) I can be on the floor and I only get 80 km/h and then it suddenly shakes and the RPMs shoot up to 7000 and overrevs. I also hear a crunching sound when I come to a stop or start up from a stopped position (not the brakes). I've had it back 3 times (the firs two times they told me they couldn't hear it) and they are either going to replace the actuator and a few other parts or the transmission altogether! Pretty sad for a car that only has less than 5000 kms on it. It will be covered under warranty but has anyone else had thes problems? I'll be paying for this car for 6 years so I hope it lasts that long!

My clutch just went out last week. I was in cruise control when mine went out. I am still fighting with the dealership because they say its not covered by the warranty. It has under 20,000 miles on it. They said it was normal wear and tear so they wont cover it. I said it was in cruise control how was it my fault and it isnt normal for the.clutch to go out when I have been driving a stick for years and this car is brand new. So, they want to charge me 1600.00 just to fix it. Needless to say. HYUNDAI SUCKS AND I SUGGEST NO ONE BUY ONE. POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE TO.SAY THE LEAST!!!!!!

To dsquared104 seems like we have the same story, mine just won’t move yesterday and I was driving fine till I had a message pop on my screen saying pull over don’t drive,I was like what ? then figured out everytime i tried to accelerate it it made that vrooom noise and didnt move so i had it towed and now they are telling the transmission is gone, but while waiting for a towe truck a friend came to pick me up and he said have you tried to drive it on sports i said no it won’t move he said let me try and the danm car moved when i told the mechanic he said that’s because the car was resting for an hour even turn on so it move but the trans is gone...i had it for 5 years now and never gave me any headache except that all the nails in the USA find my tires somehow and i get flats every 4 months lol but i hope since i have 86971 miles on it they will still cover it .

2013 Hyundai Veloster with failed clutch. 39k miles on it; wife (school teacher - 55 drives it 4 miles to work and back). She was just driving at 25 mph and said she thought she hit a bump or something. Pressure plate failed .... one of the fingers broke - ruined the friction plate as well. Now, both of us have driven sticks our whole lives ... I thought the friction point was "ghosting" - about 1" of fluctuation in the friction point that I chalked up to me not driving it enough/getting older. Turns out, the pressure plate was getting flaky/getting ready to fail completely. OWNERS: PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR CAR'S PECULIARITIES. Stop driving it when things don't make sense. I read the blog and sent it to a trusted mechanic (NOT Hyundai) and $900 later, it drives like brand new. Clearly, Hyundai has a problem with substandard clutch parts like Takata air bags. They won't fess up to it, but it is abundantly clear. BTW - I had the friction plate turned, just like brake rotors, to remove the grooving the broken spring and finger from the pressure plate made in it. Saved over $390 in parts from Hyundai. Honestly, a clutch disc doesn't cost anywhere near that except from them. Hyundai now on my s==t list of companies.

Several odd transmission issues since driving it off the lot brand new in Dec 2012 but it seems that having it towed 3 times in 2 weeks due to transmission failure will get you a brand new transmission at no cost (not counting, of course, your time and inconvenience and your sanity) and a realization that Hyundai has no conscience nor sense of real responsibility and will knowingly "bandaid" the problem until the owner finally gives up in frustration and buys a different car or until a very stubborn owner sticks it out until Hyundai is forced to replace the transmission. I just picked up the car from the service dept and it has NEVER EVER driven so smooth. Proof they have no soul or interest in building lasting loyalty relationships with their customers. The proof is that every time I complained or questioned the rough, choppy way the car shifted and drove, I was always given a speech on that's just how those transmissions work". I guess they view their cars and customers as disposable.

I just got the clutch changed about 2 weeks ago and and its slipping. What can it be??

my clutch just let go and left me stranded on 401 in rush hour. dealer or company will not help in any way. warranty just ran out and now im stuck with a 1500.00 fix. never again will i buy from them.

My 2019 Veloster just exploded the clutch after having this brand new car for less than 2 months and 1800 miles. The dealer is trying to blame my driving the car "too hard". It has never been near red line and never even chirped the tires. While the clutch was destroying itself, the clutch rod broke and jammed in the master cylinder dumping the fluid all over the side of the road where I managed to stop it with the clutch engaged. How can a brand new car fall apart like that> Are these things really that poorly designed? I want to cut my losses and get rid if this piece of junk as soon as the dealer figures out how to put it back together!!!
