swapping a 318 into a 4.7
I have 2002 dakota 4wh dr automatic.The motor blew on my stock 4.7 and i DO NOT want
to put another 4.7 in it do to the problems they have (timing chain &guides go bad,head
gaskets etc.)I want to know if anyone has put a 318 (5.2 or 5.9)360 in a dakota.I mean i
obviously know it can be done and im not worried about swingin the engines,my concern
and question is,arent all the electronics different? Intake,exhaust manifolds etc.I do not
wanna change out wire harnesses and every friggin other item including the ones i havent
mentioned....PLEASE HELP!!!!!!
you will have to change out the transmission, cooling system and all wiring and everything else. nothing is compatible between the 4.7 and the 5.2/5.9.

What about the pcm, tcm, fcm, and will the Trans bolt to the rear
will 1999, 5.2 engine Durango Dodge fit a 2002 Dakota Dodge SLT. right now it has a 7.4 engine in the Dakota
I have 2002 4.7 engine Dakota Dodge, blow the engine. will 5.2 engine from a 1999 Durango Dodge fit. with much work to put in .
Swapping the 5.2 to a 4.7 truck is somewhat easy and a pain all at once...before you start anything find a doner truck and I mean a complete running untouched truck. That will have 95% of the total swap in it... Once that's found pull out everything nicely keeping all you need to swap including driveshafts from te 5.2.....then pull everything from the 4.7 since nothen can be reused. Engine,trans, transfer case( if it's 4wd) and drive shaft( but keep aside for later), also pull wiring, cooling... Once both trucks are all pulled your going to either need to weld or hae some motor mounts made to match the 5.2 to the 4.7 frame mounts.. Once that's done the rest is pretty much easy. Just drop and bolt in. Then hook up everything piece by piece... Once you get tithe drive shafts use the shafts from the 4.7 buy the yokes from the 5.2 and get new u joints.

I have done a v6 to a 5.9 rt swap they are completely diffrent from break pads and rotors down to the air bag plug in's no the ecm does not match you will half to pull the entire harness from front to back, the only thing that i found matched was the drive shaft and i got lucky with that because i went from a single cab rt to a extended v6 shell, since then i now have a 4x4 4.7 and i have stripped quit a few things off the v6 that came off the swap or were never used after and put them on my 4.7. Im unsure of the trans matching either but i would not think the 4.7 will match the 5.2 or 5.9. And yes both dashes half to come out there is the out side shell and an iner frame everything is attached to the inmer frame on the back its easyeat to install the harness then the frameing after
I have a 2001 Dakota 4.7 owned 3yrs. But I have been a Ford 5.0 guy 35yrs. I may drop my 5.0 eng and AOD trans in Dakota when engine fails.I can use a carburetor and by pass computer harness. Have motor and trans on hand in my 93 cougar.Ford 306 engine with a 5-speed would be sweeter.
