How common is rust on a crv>

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
I recently went on vacation for a few weeks and came home to rusted
rotors. Honda said it was due to the car not being driven....$400.00 later
Really? It is a 2012 and garage kept. So whenever someone goes away
or leaves for business...rusted rotors> Now I have a rust spot on my hood.
Contacted Honda...paint not warranted. Have seen a lot of this on the
internet. What's going on?

The rotors on any car will show oxidation after sitting- especially in a wet climate- this is normal, and driving it and using the brakes will take the film of oxidation right off- they are not "rusted" even tho they may look like that- someone charged you $400?! did they do a brake job? The rust spot on your hood is a different issue- not surprising on mass-produced cars that maybe the paint jobs are not perfect-

Yes, Honda charged my $400.00 to resurface rotors. car was making grinding and thumping noise. Honda seemed to know what it was right away. Don't know if I was ripped off or not. Also reading that compound will remove rust spot. Trying to get some feedback. Thanks
Maybe you needed new brakes- let's hope that is the case-

My 2017 CR-V Touring is corroding on chrome trim pieces (tailgate, exhaust tip chrome) 6 weeks into its first winter (purchased July 2017; only 5300 miles). I've been giving it a regular wash between Colorado snow storms. Parts seem defective to make it only part way through winter before beginning to corrode.
I left my 2017 CRV in the driveway in January MA winter for three weeks. Came home and there was thumping when braking. Didn't clear after driving for a few months. Need new rotors & pads. Not covered in warranty of course. Brand new car! I know this can happen to any car and you can't leave a car out in the cold wet weather not being driven for 3 weeks but my old Subaru & Toyota didn't do this. Bummed.
We were gone for 10 days and the same thing happened to our 2017 crv.;we only have 18k miles on the car ! My 2011 Volvo was parked right next to it, no problems. I didn't see anything in the owners manual '*** always drive your car within 2 hours of rain or periods of high humidity. This is a defect in the one of most important safety feature of an automobile and Honda/NHTSA should be addressing it through a recall.
