2013 ford escape

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car is in the shop, ! I hope I don't need a whole new transmission. If it is low
on oil is that something that would make the car not really move to protect the
engine?

Yes and unfortunately that slippage you refer to was the friction surfaces in your transmission tearing themselves apart because there was no oil to separate them. They will save it if it meets certain standards. I hope you're not referring to low engine oil in which case no low engine oil won't make the transmission slip. I hope this helps, Take care.
