How do I know if my 2013 Ford Escape Se has intelligent 4wd system or if I have to hit a switch. I cant find a button

If it doe,s not have switch,it is intelligent ; ),,But in my oppion it is not that smart,it is only a anti slip control system,if a tire slip,s the other,s will grab.

TST is right. You have to understand the difference between AWD (All Wheel Drive) What your Escape has according to Edmunds.com specs)...and 4X4 Four wheel drive. When a wheel speed sensor detects that any wheel is not turning at the speed it should be, for the speed the car is going, it will either put more power to it or take away, even apply brake, depending on the situation. There are no driver controls.
