Are you referring to the Check Engine Light or Service Engine Soon warning light? If these are illuminated the car will not pass inspection . The codes can be reset but the OBD-II system gives snapshot information during the inspection. This means they can tell the light was on at the last reset of the ECM. Even if you clear the codes, the light will come back on after a full diagnostic cycle. I would suggest getting the code read and replacing the appropriate sensor so you can pass emissions/annual inspection
