My 2013 Ford Edge do the same thing. That's the purge Evaporation Valve damage. This valve was damage for Tank overfilling. Cost $28 dollars very easy to install. Symptoms when you overfill a small tank created for GAS gases was filled with Gasoline instead of gases when the motor was hot the purge valve opens an leave the gases on the cylinders. But in that case if you run at low rpms and the valve open the motor was inundated with GAS and shut off. The second symptom when the valve was damage if you overfill the tank the excess of gas was inserted in the cylinders when the motor was shut off. So when you try to start your car in the Gas Station the car wasn't start until these gas was evaporated. Attached a picture of the valve.
