2013 Ford Edge will not start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair
My 2013 Ford Edge will not start. Did a diagnostic on it and battery, starter, alternator are good. The battery is charged. When I turn the key, it will not crank. Am assuming it can be the key that lost the programming but the key fob will open the doors but will not start. There are no system faults or maintenance errors on the dash.
What can it be?

There is a starter safety lockout switch on your shifter lever that can wear out and act up. So wiggle your shift lever in Park while turning the key to crank the engine. Some newer cars you also have to hold the pedal brake down too. If that doesn't work, then, with key on, step on brake pedal, pull shifter down to "Neutral" and then turn key to start. Wiggle that too. Then it may be the ignition lock cylinder/switch at fault.
The key does NOT lose the programming because the vehicles ECU is programmed to recognize the key. It is possible that the key could have a damaged RFID chip in it. I would first take a close look at all the battery connections as well as the connections to the starter. These connections need to be absolutely clean, free from corrosion and tight. We worked on a 2013 Explorer on Friday at the dealership and the battery post had leaked acid fumes that destroyed the positive battery fuse and clamp. It also would not crank. That was $100 in the trash because the owner had neglected the corrosion at the cable ends. Had it been just slightly worse it would have required a complete new cable which installed would have run about $400.00. He was lucky that the fuse and clamp assembly was all it needed.
There are of course several other reasons that it will not crank over. Always start with the easy stuff and never assume the battery and its connections are not the problem because many times they are.
Thanks for your help guys and for responding to my post. I checked the battery cables and the cables leading to the starter and they all looked good. One thing: I haven't started the car in a day. When I parked the car at my house and checked the voltage of the battery was 13.40. The car would not start. Key would turn, radio would turn on but no crank. A message "System starter fault" would come up on the dash. Since I was attempting to start the car so many time, I charged the battery and left it at 13. I went to start the car last night and the battery was drained (so now am assuming that the battery might be bad) I recharged the battery and the car started no problem. Left the car on for a while. Shut the car off. Attempted to start the car, cylinder would turn, lights would be on, radio on, but car would not crank. Checked the voltage and it was at 13. But again, no crank.

Hi How are you I read you problem. I think your car problem in ignition switch which is under the steering column on left side
I am having this same problem, can you confirm what tge problem was? Thank you kindly!
Were you able to find out what the issue was?
My husband concluded after getting a new starter (didn't help), that his car starts 100% of the time when started with the remote start. We now believe it's the ignition switch... will update when that is replaced. For now, we start it remotely everytime.
2013 Ford Edges are notorius for not starting in very hot weather. I basically have to turn the power on and leave it on for a minute before I try to turn it over, and like I said it only happens it hot weather. Another forum said the ignition switch was replaced and it resolved the issue.

Try the spare key!!! Mine wouldnt start and the key was the issue. Got the spare key and it started right away. Apparently, and issue with the chip in the key
