2013 Ford Explorer Transmission Noise

Asked by GuruBV6G8 Nov 24, 2019 at 09:09 PM about the 2013 Ford Explorer XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2013 ford explorer xlt awd 3,5L with 134000 miles on it. After having
water pump and chain replaced I start hearing grinding noise when driving.
Usually starts when transmission shifts from 2nd to 3rd gear and continuous
through higher gears. When shifting down it stops at the same place. I also
have increased gas consumption by 25 to 30%. At the shop they said it is
bad transmission now and need between $3900 and $4300 to fix it.
Transmission is shifting properly and there is no any codes coming out,
nothing besides that noise. I would like to get some advises before spending
so much money. Does anybody knows what this could be?

go under your truck with a flash light look for something dented in or bent trans. do not run well they send out a code also go to a shop ask them to put on hoist an run truck and see what sound you get and where from and pay the guy for his time

Do not go back to that shop without some type of confirmation from a competing business. Replacing the timing chain and the water pump should not cause trans problems and, if this was not happening before you had them do the work, I would be very skeptical about their recommendation.
