Over heating in my dodge

I have an 02 neon a new water pump was put in
2.5 years ago I have a new radiator and water hose
in car. But my thermostat keeps crushing today I
drove with no thermostat and my temperature
gauge started to rise. Once I put my air on my
temperature gauge started to go down ... what can
it be

Check to see if the engine cooling fans are coming on, leave the heater A/C off then run the engine until the fans come on if it gets hot with no fan coming on check fan fuse, relay and motor a scanner might help.
