Car stalls when starting and doesn't start most of the time.

Asked by K’Shira Sep 17, 2016 at 09:33 PM about the 2002 Dodge Stratus SE Sedan FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought a '02 dodge stratus in February of
this year. Car was shutting off when I drove
it and the previous owner said it needed a
new battery. Bought the new battery and
drove it home. A couple weeks later it
started running hot on me and now barely
cranks up. Anyone have some experience
with a stratus and can give me a little
insight on what the problem could be??

Have a compression check done on each cylinder and possible a test to see if there exhaust escaping into the coolant, and look for any steam or white smoke from the tail pipe. Check to make sure when it is hot that the cooling fans are working fine. You may need head or intake gaskets.
