2013 SL550 won't shift out of Park

Asked by Guru2ZMR Jan 16, 2025 at 08:05 PM about the 2013 Mercedes-Benz SL-Class SL 550

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 SL550 with just 45,000 miles and in excellent condition.
However, intermittently it will not shift into either Drive or Reverse or come out
of Park at all (certainly this is all with the engine running). Sometimes shutting it
off and restarting it will result in proper operation (that is, it WILL shift into Drive
or Reverse).  Any ideas before I get it towed to the repair shop?

Sounds like the park/brake pedal lock solenoid is sticking. When you step on the brake pedal this activates a solenoid, under the dash, to release the shifter. Solenoids will sometimes get sticky when they get older. Jim
