Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Car worked fine until my wife pulled up to the store the
other day. Got back in and it wouldn't start. "Service theft
deterrent system" is what comes up. Also shows "service
power steering" and "service stabilitrak".

When the key is turned the dash goes black and no sounds
at all. When I let go of the key so it sets into the on
position the lights come back on and shows the above
messages.

I have replaced the battery (was a decent battery but was
under warranty and allowed a free replacement)

Had the car rekeyed ( guy doing the rekey/reprogram
stated he can't complete the full relearn because of the
"service theft deterrent".)

Replaced battery in old key and still have it.

Tried various "fixes" such as leaving the key in for 10 min
all the way to a "cheat code" of locking from inside then
unlocking getting out reloading pressing buttons etc. And
still haven't had luck.

I have checked for the various sensors on my model
malibu and only found one.
It appears to only have the one around the ignition itself.
Nothing on the back of the center console where the "key
pocket" is and nothing in the headliner between the lights.

The ring and module attached to the ignition switch is a
small black box with two sets of wires. And blue and white
going to the ring. Im assuming its the "reader" data lines.
And then a plug coming out that has 3 wires coming out.

Hard to see but looks to be a green and purple wire. A
green wire and a purple wire.

The green
Wire appears to have at one time been spliced. Most likely
due to an old security system or dealership GPS. Not 100%
though. I have tried wiggling it and disconnect then
reconnect but nothing changed.

Under the left side of the driver side near the fuse block is
a bunch of wires. I have tried my best to identify them but
am failing at the overload of data from schematics.

Some have some splices as well but nothing really going
anywhere except the ones attached to the obd2. Again
tried wiggling all wires but to no change.

I have access to a mid level scanner and when I scanned it
showed a code u0100. Which came out to be  " no
communication with ecm" but I was able to do other
module testing so I'm thinking its just a stored code.
Unfortunately the scanner doesn't have the ability to go
into the sps to reset the vats/theft deterrent.

I also have access to a multimeter but not 100% on how to
use it to find the readings needed. And am more than
willing to get readings provided its explained how to set
the meter first.

Unfortunately with the security system involved you're going to have to get your local Chevrolet Dealer to do the repairs. A locksmith may be able to fix it, but I wouldn't bet on it. Hope that helps! Jim
