service 4x4 light stays on; on my 2001 dodge durango. what does this mean?

Asked by Rj1davis Oct 28, 2013 at 10:01 PM about the 2001 Dodge Durango SLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I changed a blown fuse under the hood for the back brake lights. After replacing with new fuse, brake lights work fine now. But now the service 4x4 light is on and the 4wheel high and low switch does not work or light up either. But the vehicle drives just fine in 2wheel drive. Just the service 4x4 light stays on the the switch to put into 4wheel drive does not work or light up anymore. So I cannot put into 4wheel drive now.

this diagram makes it look like it's all in your transfer case...inspect the connections to the case....especially if you've been off-roadin' it~ part-time lockin' is what this says~
