how to check the fuel pressure

Asked by justmeok7 Apr 19, 2014 at 01:48 AM about the 2001 Dodge Intrepid SE FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Intrepid overheated one day then I waited for an hour and started the car,it ran for about 20 seconds and died. It did not get hot and it would not start back up. It tries to start but it is starving for fuel. Is there a test nipple in the line somewhere to check the pressure?
I think it should be about 8 lbs

What engine. 2.7 there is no test port. You must install a test tee in the fuel supply line. I don't know who would have it other than the dealer. On the 3.2/3.5 there is a test port on the fuel rail. You will need a fuel pressure test kit (comes with the threaded adaptors). Some places rent or borrow if not you'll have to buy. The recommended fuel pressure for all engines is 54 to 64 psi.
