Why will 2013 SRX key fob will not get recognized by vehicle?

My daughter has a new key fob for her SRX.  The fob locks/unlocks doors,
remote start, etc.  When she gets in the car the fob is not recognized and car
will not start with pushbutton unless the fob is placed in the center console in
the "pocket"  Any thoughts?

Sounds like the fob is putting out a weak signal. I know you said the fob is new, but try putting a fresh battery in the fob. The vehicle is 11 years old so the fob may have been sitting unused on the store shelf for a while and the battery is weak. Hope that helps! Jim
