Left my car running for 5 hours

I left my car running while at work for approx 5
hours this morning. I have no idea how this
happened. When I got in my cat after work, my
lights on the dash were on and I couldn't believe it!
My temp gauge showed 1/4 the way and I had
about a 1/4 tank of gas. Could I have damaged my
car?

I won't hurt anything. Police cars and Taxi Cabs idle and run all day long.

I doubt the exhaust will get overheated on a properly operating car....http://www.cartalk.com/content/idling-long-periods-might-not- damage-your-car-there-are-other-reasons-why-its-lousy-idea.
