2013 Kia Rio randomly doesn't start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have 2013 Kia Rio that just in the last few months
decided not to turn over. The first time, I took it to
a car repair to check it, they said my battery was
perfect, which was new, so whew! And no issues.
Drove away thinking ok, just a one time deal? Nope,
by the time I took it in, it had randomly not started
at least 20 times in 2 months! Today it stalled
while on the highway. No big deal, it was super
slow, so I pulled to the side and restarted it.  This is
twice now its stalled in traffic. And it is still
randomly not starting, but after a few minutes, it
starts up. I've taken it in and had the ignition switch
replaced, but that obviously was not the only
problem. So I am staring down the road and seeing
the dealer with their high prices being my only
option. I see this is an ongoing issue in these
threads, but has anyone figured out why?? Please
help!!

Did you check the alternator? If your lights flicker and your battery is fine but the car dies it’s possible your alternator is bad or you have a bad wire somewhere or it’s a parasitic draw coming from something. I’d suspect alternator first. Good luck.

Mine started having start-up issues and progressively got worse to the point that it would just die randomly. After doing some searching on the internet, I determined the issue was the crankshaft positioning sensor. I bought the part on Amazon and replaced it. Works perfectly now.
