KIA RIO wont start periodically.

Asked by Cactusflwr1 Jul 13, 2018 at 01:12 PM about the 2014 Kia Rio LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2014 Kia Rio will start
throughout the day but in most
cases if it sits overnight it will
crank but wont start. I noticed it
was running rough after starting
the first time but not always. It's
been at the shop for 5 days now
and they can't get it to repeat the
issue.  It has happened three
times within 10 days prior! It sat
for two days after not starting
and fired right up! I think it's an
LX? Please help I'm a single
parent and this is my only
transportation!

The car never had an engine light until I was driving and car died. I noticed the tach dropped to zero and no longer worked. I was finally able to have it hooked to a computer at Autozone and the code read crankshaft sensor. I will be replacing it but wont know if that works. Will keep yall updated!

Also after it dies it will start up again but it's a hard start and runs poorly since the computer is not sending info out.

My Rio is doing the same. I have had the fuel pup, filter and crank angle sensor replaced, timing belt and spark plugs. Still cranks and wont catch. Also starts fine whenever the mechanic comes to look at it, I am getting the mechanic to try the issues identified on this case (https://www.cargurus.com/Cars/Discussion-t29194_ds772844) also on this site. Will update if I get a solution.

I got one of the first mechanics that looked at this to come back again. We tried seating the O-ring in a different position but that wasn't it. He decided to order a new crank angle sensor - better quality than the first one installed and a new fuel pump. Replaced both and it started. He tried the older fuel pump again and it still started. So, my problem seemed to be a poor quality crank angle sensor replacement from right at the beginning of my problems.
