2013 Kia Rio with terrible gas mileage?

Asked by Brian Aug 25, 2015 at 12:48 PM about the 2013 Kia Rio LX

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I recently bought a 2013 Kia Rio
sedan 4d from a car rental location in
Burien, WA. It had roughly 49k miles
on the odometer and i bought it
because i heard it had good gas
mileage. But as soon as i bought it i
noticed that after filling up the tank 3
days ago, i've used up about almost
half. I travel roughly 20 miles a day.
I'm wondering if i'm just being overly
critical or there really is a problem. I
need opinions and knowledge from
people who actually know a thin or
two about cars.

next fill up top it off and not the mileage..drive it for a half a tank and top off again and do the math and check back here...depending on the shape of tank..some will stay up full for a long while and others will stay on e-half a long while....>>>> http://www.folgerkia.com/kia-fuel-economy.html

Does the car seem to "Bog down" when you accelerate? The easiest thing to do is to remove the air filter to access the MAF sensor ... they get dirty and can cause bad performance/gas mileage. A spray is available at most auto supplies

No performance issues. I do hear a rattling sound at random moments while driving. Most usually when i'm accelerating.

Sadly, I own a Kia Rio 2013 lx hatchback. 101k, owned for 4 months. Average 16 mpg. This is a. Problem that appears to be undiagnosable by the professionals. I've dug through hrs of data online and keep reading the same general responses again and again. There are only a few of us with this problem who've spoke up online (7 is my count). The professionals responding aren't listening.. OUR RIO'S ARE CONSUMING TWICE AS MUCH FUEL AS THEY SOUND BE. 16 MPG OR LOWER NOT 32MPG. POOR ACCELERATION. FIRST HALF OF A FULL TANK AVERAGES 19MPG, 2ND HALF LIKE 14MPG. FUEL ADDITIVES HELP VERY Slightly. Better fuel mileage the harder you stomp on the pedal and the faster you drive. Horrible like 9mpg when you just sit and idle. Sounds backwards right? SOMEONE PLEASE READ THESE STRANGE FACTS AND GIVE US SOME NEW PROBLEM OPTIONS TO TRY. NONE OF THE STANDARD ANSWERS SEEM TO work. .
