Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Engine light came on before inspection and they said I needed a new gas cap so I bought a replacement gas cap and had car inspected and light was off for about a week now back on again. It's not flashing it's just on all the time.

Apparently the code they saw had to do with a faulty gas cap. And they reset it during car inspection but now after a week it's back on.

This why I ask because evap codes everyone always goes to the gas cap but it is many times a leak somewhere else. You could put some silicone paste around the rubber seal on the gas cap to ensure sealing. Give it a try. You should hear a “swoosh” when you take the cap off. Sucking sound.

Thanks. The car is not experiencing any problems. No lack of performance. And I check the fluids regularly.

You don’t notice the performance but it Isn’t good for your car. You are using too much gas when this light is on. Putting extra carbon and unburned fuel through your injectors and exhaust.

Well this is not an answer my engine light is on to I had somebody told me that it was possible that my thermostat was stuck open is that possible but the car is acting fine on heat I think

I went to bring my car in on 10/19/20 for an inspection & all of a sudden my engine light came on they put the code reader on it & it said that it was my thermostat.Well I came home & my husband looked at it & he said it cant be my thermostat because I'm not overheating. It shuts off when its suppose to,fan runs and ect.We chked all fluids don't know what else to think.I've tried my gas cap seems a tiny bit loose.Should I buy another gas cap.I have a 2012 Dodge advenger with about 61000 miles on it.
