Dash security light flashes constantly

Asked by Rick Mar 09, 2020 at 11:19 AM about the 2013 Subaru Outback 2.5i Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Back
2013 Subaru Outback:
I recently had spare key cut. Locksmith connected
something electronic to car but couldn't make
buttons on key work. He also couldn't make
security light on dash stop flashing. Said I should
disconnect battery wait 30 min. and system would
reboot.  I did that but light keeps flashing, even
when car is running. Now something is running 1
yr. old battery down. Dead 2 days in a row. What
can I do?

Hi Rick. Not sure what's going on here, but starting in 2013 domestic Legs/OBs required a visit to the Dealer to code any new key or fob to match the specimen's receiver in the dash. They generally charge 1/2 hr labor for this 15min computer service...PLUS the cost of the product. (Hint: you can bring in any similar year fob and they'll match it to your car, so at least you'll have an extra fob for only it's salvage value ($20 on eBay)) But CUT keys will still cost about $125, about $140 with integral fob. You may have to start over, in other words. Good Luck.
