2 Transmission replacements in 2013 subi Outback

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In
Wondering if I should cut bait and get rid of this car
after second transmission replaced at 60k (first one
at 34k) It seems, on one hand, that it’s now
apparently covered to 100k (with letter from Subaru)
so might as well get more usenout ofnit rather than
having to buy a new car. But who has heard of
having two transmissions going out?? It is the size
and height of car that fits all my needs: biking,
camping,hauling things & kayaking. They’ll
probably offer me less for my car :-(

CVT's are really great are they not? I would sell but that is up to you. You can sell it with a clear conscience since the transmission is new and has a warranty.
Two transmission replacements in 94,000 miles.... yeah, I'd get rid of it... take it to the dealership and just say that you want a brand new car... they'll take it... that's what they do...and the rack rate you pay for transmission work past 100,000 miles is NOT what the wholesale price is for them to fix it.... You're being up charged a lot for that..... Some people ... think that the 2010 to 2012 CVTs are more prone to failure... interesting that you have a 2013 and two failures within 100,000 miles... I assume that you don't drive like someone from the Indy raceway??? I think there's a bad period of years for Subaru....2013-2015 or even through 2016.. they have had problems with oil consumption like a lot of other vehicles... look up the Thirsty 30.... it's a real thing... I've heard that Subaru may have turned a corner in 2017 and the new models are http://www.motortrend.com/cars/subaru/outback/2018/
We are seeing reports of oil consumption right off the lot with 17's and 18's so no corners turned. A U turn is needed but no promising signs at this point.
Very unfortunate..the old EJ Series engine like the one in my 2010 Subaru Outback Limited.. doesn't burn oil...has the original CVT transmission... running fine..in fact, purchased the car almost four years ago... just maintenance... great car...
I went through the oil consumption test but it was within their ‘normal limit’ range even though car always needs a quart of oil between oil changes! FYI- The second trans. was replaced at 60k, not 94k. Thanks for your responses
I would change the oil at 5,000 miles rather than at 6k. This way you may not need to add any oil.
Maybe that’s what I should have been doing. The manual and the service guys told me every 7500 - later models changed to 6000
Your engine will thank you.
