can you use a 2004 2.0 engine in a 2000 dodge neon?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just bought a 2000 dodge neon, the engine in it cranks up but the person i
bought it from had a lousy mechanic in the engine head already. i dont want
to risk it so i wanted to know if I can use a 2004 2.0 engine instead. Also i
notice when i crank my car the engine rolls over and starts but when i press
gas it isles out and shuts off. any help with that?

You can use the motor, but I doubt the motor will function properly without the ECU... your 2000 neon should have a 2.4L which is completely different than the 2.0. As far as stalling is concerned... is the car automatic?

Yes, you can, and the neon only had a 2.4 in the SRT trim from 2003-2005.
