Does it not have a smell or smell like wet socks? A stopped up drain hose from your ac evaporator core could cause this. Does it smell like anti-freeze? If so could be leaking heater core.

No odor, picked up Jeep Feb 18 2014 from dealer.Weather has been cold all winter, temps warmed up in the 40. Degrees range since then you can hear the sound of ice water sloshing under the passenger seat. Carpet is soaked near the floor mat hooks.

Check the Battery Compartment - 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, purchased January 24th - less than 400 miles. It appears there are a lot of 2014 Jeeps with leak issues - We heard water sloshing on the passenger front side - couldn't determine if it was in the door well or under the passenger seat. Went straight home and starting researching on-line and came across a posting with description of a 2014 jeep purchased also in Jan same issues. We pushed the passenger front seat foward, opened the rear passanger door, took out the floor mats and opened the battery compartment - YES, water in the battery compartment. We took the car to the dealership the next day, the dealership said they had never heard of this... all they had to do was look on-line. I shared with them the posting from this site in which they stated they would have their water leak specialists take a look at it. Their water leak specialist stated the leak was around the cowl area(?), sealed it and repaired per Chryslers guidelines. Called Crysler and continue to work with the dealership on the fact we have lost all confidence of feeling like we purchased a vehicle that will offer us reliability in the short term much less long term - a water leak issue after two weeks of purchase is unacceptable. Dealership and Chyrsler are empathetic but that's it; as you can imagine, the amount of $ we paid....empathy via lip service doesn't make us feel any better.

I had the same exact problem with my 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4x4. I live in Los Angeles and it barely rains here but after a few days of what wasn't even heavy rain, I ended up with a puddle of water in my battery compartment and a soaked carpet on the passenger side. I've upgraded my sound system and now my amp wiring is all messed up. I'm starting to second guess my decision in purchasing the car and it's reliability.

I just brought my 2012 GC overland in for 3rd time with this issue. The dealer said windshield was leaking so I replaced. 2 days later water sloshing under passenger seat. Returned to dealer who then said the firewall seal was leaking. So they fixed the seal. I just picked it up Saturday only to return this morning (monday) with water again sloshing under the seat. The dealer seems to think I've created this problem. It's frustrating to say the least. Exploring my next option....

I'm having the same issue with my 2012 JGC Laredo. This after 2 weeks worth of my vehicle was at the dealer for recalls, stalling, electrical problems etc. I don't think but know that this was a bad purchase. It is sad that the 2014 and 2015 JGC are having the same numerous problems that my 2012 has. The dealers/manufactures keep ignoring the issues and acting like they didn't build a lemon but they have. I wouldn't recommend this vehicle to my worst enemy.

Same issue. 2012 JGC Laredo but on driver side. Hopefully someone files a class action. I know I would join after $100 to clean the AC line. I am sure there is some safety hazard. Hopefully someone doesn't have to get hurt to get Chrysler to recall and fix. I know I won't ever buy a Chrysler again!

I purchased a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee in 2012 and one month after purchase had the rear tail light assembly replaced due to water inside the assembly. I now (Sept/2014) have water pouring into the rear cargo area due to a ripped rubber plug around a wire bundle at the top of the rear body above the rear gate. The vehicle was inspected by Chrysler Service Contracts, who denied coverage for a rubber part that has some how been damaged. The problem with trying to repair this, is that the rubber plug is a permanent part of a $1700.00 dollar wire harness that runs the length of the vehicle. Jeep designed these two rubber plugs that are situated at the top of the rear body where the rear lift gate attaches to the body so that they are not replaceable unless you replace the entire wire harness! The amount of water that gets into the body of the vehicle through this damaged plug is quite large and the customer is left to their own devices to repair it because the Chrysler Service Contract won't cover it and you can possibly void your Life Time Warranty if you do the repairs yourself. So, the bottom line is folks, check these two rubber plugs above the rear gate hinges for possible water intrusion points.

I purchased a 2013 GC jeep every time it rains I hear water sloshing around on passenger side. Took it to dealer asked them to check it out they totally ignored the problem and said they could not hear anything. I returned to dealer after a heavy rain with sloshing noise same answer was ignored again. NO MORE JEEPS FOR ME OR CHRYSLERS!!!!!! No more vehicles from Reedman Toll!!!!!!

I have a 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited that had leaks appearing in the battery compartment and the spare tire compartment. The leak in the battery compartment was caused by one of the holes for the roof rail. I removed the rail and filled all holes with silicone before replacing the rail. This fixed it. After extensive searching on my part, I have located the leak associated with the water in the spare tire compartment. I knew it had to be related to the sunroof as the headliner was getting wet at the back corners. I've discovered that there are not one, but two drain holes on each side at the rear of the sunroof track. Only once drain hose is connected on each side. The additional drain hole on both sides is completely open and water freely flows through it whenever it rains or your wash your vehicle. I have an appointment with my dealership to hopefully get this resolved. I plan on having them replace my stained headliner as well.

Easy fix. Under both the driver and passenger seat under the car are drain plugs. You will have two on the passenger side and one under the drivers side. Pull the pigs off and the water comes pouring out. Terrible design by this car maker.

Thanks, Synpak. I bought a 2013 GC a few months back and we noticed an increase in the sloshing. 'Pulled the drain plugs and out came maybe 2 gallons.

Yes...2011 with same water in the battery compartment issue. Pulled the smaller drain plug below the compartment and a large amount of water came out. After investigating all the web sites including this one, it appears it could be either that the rack rail holes leaking or missing insulation in the passenger A pillar. I am going to leave the plug out for now and hope that FC owns up and does a recall.

The issue everyone is having is with the A/C evaporator drain. The drain is located just to the right of the drivers leg behind the trim located on the drive shaft hump. The issue is that the evaporator has a 90 degree bend in it and is open facing the front of the Jeep GC (I have a 2014 JGC). Once it clogs it backs up and runs all over both sides of the passenger compartment. I have to drain the plugs underneath the car, pull the carpet and let it dry out with fans for three days. Not a great design by Jeep. You can just take your compressor and put the spray nozzle on it and push the clog out easily. I plan on doing this annually to avoid a repeat issue.

does anyone know where exact location from the outside where the drain is located?

I had the same problem. Actually, a storm surge came through during a hurricane and my car was in water up to the tailpipe for about 2 hours. If you look under your Jeep Grand Cherokee there are little black rubber plugs (they are practically where your front driver and passenger seats are. I think it's the battery compartment). If you pull those out then I guarantee water will spill out like a water hose. I couldn't pop the plugs with my hands, so I improvised and used a wine opener.... hahaha.

I can't believe I found this page! I've been to Jeep twice in 2 days...guy said there are no plugs on a JGC, 4x4 Laredo...I have a 2012 bought it last March.... and he would have to take the seats out to find the problem. He suggested going to a body shop...won't be going back to this dealer...ugh...

At shop now...my 2012 jgc 4x4 Laredo has 3 plugs on passenger side. None on driver's side...about 2 gallons of water came out.

My experience was the same as ltsotto above. I had windshield replaced for a crack about a month ago and wonder if this could be the source of the leak. I owned the Jeep (2012 GC Overland) for about a year prior to the windshield replacement and don't recall ever hearing water sloshing around before. Three plugs, two large, one small, all on the passenger side. Popped them with a screwdriver yesterday and water poured out. Visible water in battery compartment disappeared. No sloshing on test drive. Got lots of rain last night again. Drove it, heard sloshing again, and popped the plug. Lots of water (less than before) came out of the forward large plug and the small plug. Essentially no driving between these events, so could not have been AC condenser as source, or large puddles. Source is definitely rain. I just have to figure out if it is a bad windshield seal or roof rails (as others have suggested). Garden hose should answer this question once I have a free day to test.

too many different issue, I owe a 2012 for 7 years no problems, it is my 4th jeep grand Cherokee, first time this problem. (water in battery compartment) Question is . Is there anybody ho can tell me were this water come from????????????????

In my case, the windshield replacement tech had not fully inserted the rubber seal on the bottom left of the windshield. Between this oversight and torrential rains, the water gained access to the compartment. Once I snapped it into place no further problem. See attached image.

Omg! So happy to have found this thread! I noticed a couple months ago after having some hurricanes in this area that my passenger side floor was wet, I vacuumed it and didn’t think anything else about it, now lately I have been hearing sloshing noise and can now even see a puddle of water on the passenger side. I pulled up the side of the carpet and used my home carpet cleaner and sucked up about 9 things of water. Than I found this thread last night and pulled the plugs under passenger side this morning holy cow so much water came out!!! Where is the drivers side plugs at I have a 2014 JGC overland!

Like many here, I'm so happy to have found this thread. I've been out of town for a few weeks so my 2013 Grand JC was parked the entire time. Last night I drove to the store and when I backed out of my driveway and stopped I heard sloshing WAVE action under the passenger side. Sounded like the door was full of water. My passenger floor boards also damp. There was a BAD rainstorm that passed through while I was away so as was pointed out by someone else here, that tells me without a doubt this issue has nothing to do with my AC or Heater since it wasn't driven. It was rain. I also had no water in my battery compartment. Sounds like the AC thing is a separate issue. I consider myself very lucky this is the 1st ever issue I've had in the 6 years I've had it. This morning I found a plug UNDER the passenger side frame, pulled it off and a ton of water poured out. While I'm glad I could easily get rid of the water.....does anyone know how so much water gained access to that area so I can avoid it happening again?

Roy from Australia here I have a 2013 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. We could hear the liquid sloshing noise on the left side of the vehicle about 4 years ago. I reported it to the local dealer and pointed out that there were posts on the web indicating that water was entering the under body channel sections. They told me they didn’t take any notice of posts on the web. They decided the baffles had failed in the fuel tank. They changed the fuel tank. A major job. This did not solve the problem. When they handed the vehicle back to me it was leaking fuel on their floor. I refused to accept the vehicle and left it with them. Days later they said it was fixed. The fuel line from the tank was leaking. So much for completing leak checks. They also pulled the rubber plug out from the under floor channel and 6 litres of water came out. They couldn’t explain where it came from and tried to blame us for driving through flood water. I informed them that the vehicle had never driven through water. They did reposition the aircon drain and the problem has never been repeated. The moral to this story is we should post our issues on the web and keep fellow owners informed. The problem will always be convincing dealers to not reject others experiences an keep an open mind when troubleshooting.

So I have two separate issues. First, my sunglasses holder seems to leak water during heavy rain or consecutive days with rain. I took it to jeep and the unclogged both sunroof drains. Not too bad, but it keeps happening. I’ve figured out how to clean them myself which is a pain, but it saves me $125 each time from the jeep dealer. Second, as I was searching for a dead mouse in my jeep (actually a 3rd problem) And i came across the battery compartment under the passenger side seat. I opened it and to my surprise it was 1/4 full of water. I called jeep and they said they never heard of it (yeah right), but was willing to look at it for their $125 fee. I took matters in my own hands and used a shop vac to get it out. It was a lot! I’m not sure how the water got in there. None of the carpet or matting was wet/damp, and in my pursuit of the dead mouse (which I found under the passenger side carpet on the floor near the center console) there was no indication where The water was coming in. To be continued I guess, but I’m so thankful to have found this thread. I will look for the three plugs under the jeep after the next rain event. It’s a shame jeep has so many design flaws. If someone can shed some light on mice entering the vehicle that would be great too! Oh yeah this is a 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee overland.
