Idling too high
My 2000 Dodge Stratus had a bad distributor. The dealer wanted to charge $1600 to
replace the part. I went ahead and did it myself. Once I got things back together, the
car started right up, however now the idle speed is way too high. This was not a
problem before the distributor went out. From what I read on the forums, the idle
speed is controlled by the control module and not adjustable. Is this true? If so, what
could be causing this issue? One thought is a vacuum problem. The throttle body
gasket had a tear in it. Perhaps this is causing the high idle.
