2013 Ford Focus Hatchback SE

Ok, I’ve had the engine light on for awhile, but
know it’s the O2 sensor. But in the two weeks
while driving, one time in stop and go traffic as I
was decelerating the rpm needle suddenly
dropped to zero and the car died, the oil light and
battery light popped on. This morning after
decelerating while going up on off ramp the car
dies again and does the same thing. It starts right
back up again and both lights go off. The battery is
brand new and I’ve been getting regular oil
changes every 4K-5k miles. What is going on and
how much is this going to cost me?

It could be a weak alternator. If the car has above 50k miles I would draw a heavy suspicion towards this. But I would go get the computer scanned for codes and see what comes back. You can get this done free at Autozone or any parts store

Ok, thank you on the Alternator answer as well, but the code did come back as an O2 sensor. Just want to have some info in advance of getting it fixed. Better to be informed.

Sorry, completely misread where you said it is an o2 sensor that the code threw haha. I would say no more than an hour of labor for the mechanic at the most. Most likely a half an hour. I know Midas charged me around $115 an hour for labor and it’s cheaper if you buy the sensor yourself and take it to the mechanic if he/she lets you do so.
