Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Dakota will act just keep turning over and
over but won't fire up. So I'll get out and
tap my gas tank with a hammer and try to
start my truck right away and it will act like
it wants to fire up but it won't the. Just
keep turning over and over so I'll tap my
gas tank again then try to start the truck
and sometimes it will fire right up then shut
down sometimes it will stay started for
5minutes sometimes just for 5seconds.

More than likely the fuel pump module assembly would need to be replaced. There is a filter, sock on the end of the fuel pump that could be plugged up. You wouldn't want to go threw the work of dropping the gas tank to just replace the sock, as the fuel pump has be struggling to suck gas, has heated up, and would be only a matter of time before it went bad. Change out the fuel filter also, and to verify, check the fuel pressure first.
