Do you have any engine codes. If so you can get them scanned at Auto Zone or Advanced auto for free. Also have them test your battery. Low battery will cause strange things to engine and sensors. Most cases the crank shaft position sensor is the issue on starting failures.

No codes at all. Tried jumping it and engine only turned over, smelled gas so I figured no spark either... weird part is trying without a jump I turned key off and it tried starting itself.
My 1989 3.9 does the same trys to fire when key comes back to run position. Did you figure out the problem?
