I’m having a very similar issue with my 2013 Durango, but FCA Canada does not have any record of this recall. Would it apply to Canadian vehicles as well?
My vehicle is a 2013 Durango w/the 3.6. It has stalled while driving 4-5 times. Starts right back up. The last time it wouldnt start one morning & wouldnt release the key. Had it towed to the dealer who found nothing wrong w/it, it started right up. Displayed no diagnostic codes. Called FCA at the number provided & they suggested I contact the dealer on the R09 recall. Dealer says this was addressed by the original owner. HELP!!!
Recall replaced Fuel pump relay Dec 2018 and issue remains. 2013 Durango.
I have a 2000 dodge durango and it dies but starts right up what could be reason behind this
2013 Dodge Durango 3.6....going down road speed doesn’t matter... it completely stalls....nothing on...dash lights..engine...NOTHING...then sometimes it will automatically restart and sometimes not. Chrysler says take it in for diagnostic test....nothing coded....Yes there is a recall BUT not for my VIN # (just model/year in recall) ....I find this a little odd there is a recall for same issue BUT not my VIN #.....same year/model!
I was told by a local shop they have seen it several times and it was the ignition switch losing connection with the key fob. Since it's not a key that goes all the way it and is just a radio type signal the ignition switch is losing connection to the key and acting as if you took the key out. I have a 2013 Durango and have the external relay installed and it died today while driving.
So what are you saying? I understand you put the external relay so does this mean it’s not what you originally said about key fob??
I was saying I did the external relay and it was still dying, and the shop mechanic said it was probably the ignition switch losing connection to the key . Where you insert key to start it. So it was acting like you took the key out when you did not.
I have a 2013 Dodge Durango that has just started doing the same thing, today it was on the highway going 70 mph when it just died then started right back up. Very scary
This just happened to me yesterday. 2012 Dodge Durango. Is this a past recall??
This is happening to me now on a 2013 with 100k, everything turns off. Anyone figure it out? Has happened a handful of times. Already had the fuel pump recall fixed, no codes. Please help
I ended up replacing the external relay fuse they put in for the recall. The one they put in worked for however long and started sticking. Replaced it with a new fuse and it starts fine since then.
You can test the relay by having someone turn the ignition on before starting it and you stand at the back right side and listen for the pump to engage. If it's not obv the engine wont start and you can tap the relay under hood while starting to try it. If its stuck and opens it replace relay. Mine isn't having a problem starting, it's while driving. Engine dies, no dash lights, all power off like I turned the key off. Sometimes it will start back up by itself other times it will roll to a stop then manually need to restart. Is this the same symptoms of that fuse?
Ours died once while driving but it hasn't died or not started since we replaced the fuse.
Most often caused by a bad ground wire. Most are located near the battery.
I have a 2006 Durango with the 5.7. This morning driving back home it just turned off on me no lights but it was still rolling so I put it in neutral and fired back up. This was a first for me.
The engine in my 2013 Dodge Durango 3.6 L V6 has stopped many times while driving. .When this recall was first published I took the car to the Dodge Dealer and it appears that they did add that external relay with its own fuse. This was about 4 1/2 years ago that I took the car in for that recall. The engine was not stopping prior to that. So, maybe the original relay was OK. The car started having the problem of engine stopping just about six months ago. While the car was stopped with the engine running I have wriggled every wire, connection an fuse that I could see. The engine did no stop. I will replace that fuse that's on the circuit for the external relay that Dodge added and see what happens. We cannot drive the car on the freeway due to the imposed danger.
I replaced the external relay fuse and the Durango has not died or not started since.
The last time the engine stopped I noticed that the radio was still playing and the hazard flashers worked. Next time I will get out of the car and see if the headlights and tail lights are working. Maybe also the horn. But, the electric power steering was not working. So whatever is shutting the engine down it also shuts the power off to the electric power steering pump. The car is way too complicated I am used to real cars.
@vstanford my problem seems most like yours although, generally only at low speed, especially if vehicle is rocked side to side. First happened two weeks after recall fixes were updated, while pulling into my driveway. Thought it was a fluke but went through all connections anyway. Happened again today (a month since last occurrence). If you find a fix please update here! I'll do likewise. I'm wondering if it is perhaps keyfob related. I was also once able to turn off my ignition, remove fob, but, dash info center still displayed "remove key." I had to turn ignition to "on" and back again.
Well, I am keeping track of how often this happens. On Sept 19, 2020 the engine died while driving not fast on a city street. (We cannot take the car on the freeway because it would be very dangerous if it stalled while driving 65 mph.) On Sept. 29 it died again. On Oct. 8 it died twice within 2 minutes . The first time it started back up again on its own. The second time it died completely so I put on the emergency flashers and slowly pulled over to the side and stopped. I then started the engine again and drove away. The street was too busy so I did not get out to see if the headlights were working. It seems that the frequency of the engine dying is getting more and more often. This is definitely an intermittent problem like a loose wire, bad relay points, or like stated above a problem with the contact with the key fob. Since the radio and the hazard lights are still working that likely means that it is not the main battery connections. It appears that only the engine looses electrical power.
Also, regarding the fuse on the "fix" or external relay, I tried to remove it but it appears that it may be in there permanently. It would not budge as I tried to pull it out. I did not want to force it for fear of damaging the fuse holder and be left with a connection to the "fix" (external relay). Is this normal for that fuse to be in its holder so firm like that?
My fuse was almost fused in there. I had to use a screw driver to change it. It hasn't stalled or died since.
So Stevo exactly how did you pry out the fuse? I tried pulling it out with pliers and it would not budge.
Pliers and a screw driver, the fuse in it had a clip also I had to hold down. I popped it off the frame first.
Stevo: So there is a clip down inside the fuse holder that holds the fuse in place? I will look into that and see what I can do. Thanks.
The one that was on mine before I changed it had a clip on it holding it to fuse housing.
Stevo: OK. Thanks a lot. I will see what I can do. But first I will have to buy the proper new fuse.

Bought 2013 Durango doing same thing stalling while driving. Replaced relay and still doing it. Any solution yet that actually works
@vstanford I know this is a dumb question but, just so I can follow along better, have you changed the battery in your key fob recently? (Customer service voice: Have you tried turning the vehicle on and off sir? Haha). We're currently hitting our winter conditions here. -12F last night, ice all over roadways, etc. I fear that my Durango will stall in the middle of a slippery turn or worse, as I pull onto the highways with other vehicles crossing my path. I changed my fob battery and so far seems good. One thing I didn't mention earlier... About two weeks into owning this Durango, I exited at work and realized I forgot something. As I opened door back up I noticed that my dash still said to remove the key, even though I had done so a few minutes prior. I honestly think it's some kind of connectivity issue with that fob, although, whaaat the issue is i don't know. Perhaps they need to recall the ignitions on these?

If you Dodge Durango is stalling or out right shutting off while you are driving I may have the solution. My 2000 Durango SLT 5.9L was shutting off after it hit operating temperature of 190 degrees, usually two or three miles into a ride. Well, after months of research online, I discovered frayed wires on the oxygen sensors before and after the catalytic converter triggering a false signal to the computer telling the vehicle to shut off! That simple! Now you know that catalytic converters only last 10 years, I didn't! After months and months of not using my durango, I finally replaced the converter, which was the original and the sensors and the truck is running like brand new!
Well, my 2013 Durango stalled multiple times on a short trip to go shopping. It started up right away . I took the car to the dealer's service dept to have a diagnostic run. They did and the service guy called and said they can find no faults. Five years ago they had already added that after market external relay assembly . I asked what I should now do. he said the come get the car and when it stall again do not start the car and have it towed in to the service dept. He said that they might be able to find the electrical problem at that time by checking the circuits to see which one is "dead". He opted to keep the car and they are to drive it until it fails, if it does. Then they will have it taken back to the dealer's service dept for a diagnostic check. So, right now they are out driving it. But, this is the only day that they will do this. I will still have to pay $185 for the diagnostic check and whatever they charge for driving the car around. I mentioned to him about the fuse in the external relay's circuit. He said that the relay activates the fuel pump only for startling and after the engine is running the fuel pump activation is controlled by engine vacuum. So, if the fuse was a problem the car would not even start.and if the relay was bad the engine would not restart after the engine dies. So it is not that relay circuit that is causing the engine to stall because the engine starts back up again. I received a letter from a law firm regarding this Dodge problem. I don't understand how they got my name or how they know my car is having these problems. They are "Strategic Law Practices" out of Los Angeles. The letter mentions California's Lemon Laws. The guy in the service dept said that a can of worms may be opened with this sort of thing. One thing after another.
A couple of weeks ago I received another recall notice. This time it was on the "fix" or the external relay. Evidently they are having a similar problem with the fix (as they were with the original relay). I did take the car in to the dealer (see my comment above). They told me that they did not have a replacement "fix" as they ran out of them. But the service repair statement that they gave me says they replaced it again. So, the parts must have come in. If they did actually replace that it will be interesting to see if the engine continues to stall. The dealer drove the car 40 miles and it did not stall. But, was that before or after they installed a new "fix", if they did. This is all getting so confusing. I picked the car up a few minutes ago. We'll see what happens.
I have a 2013 Dodge Durango. I've been dealing with it stalling while driving for almost a year now. I recently had the recall "fixed". It has stalled but started right back up a few times and today it completely died on me. I had to pull off to the side of the road and put it into park, turn it off, and start it back up. I noticed that when I gently touched the key, because I was going to shut it off, it completely shut off. It should have stayed on. I didn't even turn it. Is there a way to test to see if it is the connection between the keyfob and the signal? Is this a problem that could be prominent enough to try to get Mopar or the NHSA to look into to have it recalled? It seems that more people are having this problem and the fuel-pump relay recall isn't really fixing the issue
That's a good point. If it is the key/fob in the ignition switch that is causing this problem just how is Chrysler made aware of this? Maybe after use the key fob wears and gets loose in the ignition switch. After all it is just plastic. It looks like the ignition switch is also plastic. Oh yeah. The dealer did not charge anything for the $185 diagnostic or driving to car for 40 - 60 miles to check it out.

Hey everyone. I have found the issue, for me and some of us hopefully. It's the KEY! After you crank it on, try touching or tapping the key while it is in the ignition. It will shut off. Replace your key.
2012 Durango citadel with a push button start, never even put the key in the ignition before. Tonight while exiting the freeway and rounding a rather sharp curve my power steering just stopped working and my truck dropped to 0 rpm. Lost no power at all, dash still showing my speed (at 0 mph), radio on, lights on, etc. Just could not accelerate in any way and power steering stopped working. Turned the vehicle off and back on again, received a "low battery" message about my fob, made it home without incident. Never got any other engine lights or any warning whatsoever that this was going to happen, and had been going a few miles faster off the exit I could have been in a fairly serious accident since power steering just stopped. Does this sound similar to anyone else's experiences? At least a fob battery, if that's the issue, shouldn't be too expensive. But I'm very concerned as a single mother of an 8yo and 2yo that this will happen again and I will be in a way more serious situation.
