Can I replace the transfer case fluid vs just the transfer case?

My 2013 durango citadel is needing to have the transfer case replaced. So I've
been told. If I replaced the transfer case fluid will this help?

New fluid is not going to rebuild a worn out or damaged transfer case. Go ahead and spend $50 on fluid if you want to.
