I've never used a 4 wheel drive vehicle, now I have a 2004 Ford Ranger 4x4. I think I can engage the 4 wheel drive while under 20mph, how fast can I drive while its engaged?

....well only engage it when you need the confidence of all four wheels touchin' the pavement...2wd works most of the time...did not know that there was a certain speed...I know there's a shifter to go from 2 wheel or 4 wheel...had no idea there were speed limitations...brand new to me~

Keep in mind that the 4 wheel drive system in your Ranger is only intended for slippery surfaces. You can safely drive at Highway speeds with no negative consequences but the system has no differential between the front and rear driveshafts so tight corners will bind the drivetrain and make the wheels bounce or shudder. Most Transfer Cases (not all) should be shifted into or out of 4X4 from a stop. Ford has some on-the-fly systems. I recommend that you either research your truck or stop by your local Ford Dealer or 4X4 shop. BTW - 4X4 powertrains require some extra maintenance!
