it depends on how loud your noise is. is your car a v6 or a 4 banger? the 4 bangers are know to get what is called "lifter tick". the lifters were designed poorly when it comes to moving around oil and being lubricated. make sure you have the correct amount of oil in your car and you are using 5W-30. low oil is the biggest thing that causes lifter tick.

All the old Avengers develope the knocking. Its in the design. Get a new gasket, take off the valve cover, tighten the bolts around the lifters, and use a heavier weight old. The bolts get loose over time.

again "heavier weight oil" is just BAD SUGGESTION. try not to give information that is just plain stupid.

lifters are probley worn a little,is nothing to worrie about, just keep the oil and filter changed every 3,000 miles, add a bottle of stp at every oil change.

When an engine has high mileage and/or borderline abuse it is absolutely a fact that clearances will be out of spec. Aka too much clearance in bearings therefore requires a higher grade "thicker oil" top half also will soon chatter as pressure drops when oil journals @bearings have too much clearance. If you were to apply the math/science; increase the oil vescsity =pressure will increase= reduces knock and chatter decreases. It takes up out of spec tolerance in bearing journals and restores pressure to allow oil to reach top half again (lifter/rocker arms). I am @ 10w40 w/212,000 when knock returns will go to 20w50. Factory was 5w20. Therefore Heavier wight oil is NOT a "BAD SUGGESTION" it is not recomended by manufacturer because they are in business to sell new not extend life of older cars.
