Knocking noise in engine 5.3 GMC 2013

Asked by Doug Mar 07, 2017 at 05:27 PM about the 2013 GMC Sierra 1500 SLE Ext. Cab

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My truck only has 20,000 miles on it and started knocking at 19,000 miles
took it to the dealer and they stated it was normal characteristics of the
motor. i was a mechanic back in the 70 s and rebuilt motors before. I know
a rod knock or maybe piston slap when I hear it. It comes from from the oil
pan and then on top by the passenger side. It comes and goes and does
not do it all the time. I have a 5 year 100,000 mile warranty on it but seen
as they do not want to commit to something is wrong where do I go from
hear before my 5 years is up. It is a lower mileage than anyone having this
problem.

I had a Hyundai elantra that did the same thing. Turns out it was something called piston slap. Discovered at end of warranty -, 4K later new engine. Apparently problem is likely in every veh since they now make pistons about 2 inches tall unlike years ago they were about 6. Fuel economy.

My 2013 Sierra just started knocking also. Truck had 37,000 when bought. Noticed oil leaking 2000 miles later, needed head gaskets. Week later battery dies leaves me stranded few hrs. 2000 miles after head gaskets knock appears. I thought i was buying low mileage vehicle so I wouldn't need to deal with this crap. Did you ever get it resolved?
