My 98 dodge durango will not start without jumper cables. It just clicks when you turn the key. Is there any ideas out there that I haven't tried yet.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

We've replaced the battery the belt
and the tension pulley. The altinator
tested good. I personally think it's
the starter but am being told to
replace the altinator cause it's the
cause of the problem. Someone
please help

Clean and tighten all battery cables. Also clean and tighten the negative battery cable to the frame and motor. If still not starting I would have the starter tested. But it cranking with a jump start leads me to think loose connection somewhere.

How many volts is the alternator giving you ? It must be over 14 volts to be able to charge the battery. If you can start with jumper cables the starter should be ok. Did you replace the battery with a battery that has the same amps as the old one ? check all connections specially ground ones, clean them with wire brush or sandpaper.
