Father in law bought mother inlaw triple black 72 monte carlo swivel seats top
notch car stolen 1 year later just found vin and insurance paperwork in estate
looked up vin hasnt been registered or junked thinking still out there would love
to recover for wife any help would be appreciated

You will need the police and insurance report and then maybe DMV can tell you more but don't hold your breath, back then once the vehicle was written off by insurance the paperwork went into the trash. Most likely it was chopped up and sold as parts or shipped out.

Did you run the VIN through NICB? It's a free lookup on their website. This should confirm the vehicle was reported stolen. If the VIN is in the database it should be flagged so if it ever turns up, even decades later, your in laws would have been notified. You can Google the VIN and if the car survived into the internet age, something may pop up. There's also a site called bumper that claims to be able to trace pre 1981 VINs. I haven't used it though.
