Rattling under hood of 2013 Corolla S

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla S.  I noticed a few months ago, once the engine is warmed up and I am accelerating between 2,000-3,000 RPM, there is a rattling coming from under the right side (passenger side) of the hood.  I have brought this up to the shop I take my car to and the first time they stated they didn't hear anything.  The second time they stated it was the ABS system doing a self check after every stop I make (I have a lot of stop signs in my neighborhood).  That doesn't sound right to me.  Any thoughts??? I also thought maybe the heat shield, but they said it was perfectly fine.

If its still under warranty take it back to the dealer, if not find another mechanic and get a second opinion. It sounds like it could be a loose heat shield rattling.

It's still under warranty and the dealer is where I had taken it back two different times. Might try a different location -- it may just be that one location. I was thinking it may be the heat shield as well. Thank you!

That sounds like a good plan, thats what I would do. Your welcome and good luck.

Michael is spot-on. Telling you the ABS system doing a self check is ridiculous, they do indeed do a self-diagnostic but only when you start the car and is silent.

I have a 2013 Toyota Corolla S. It rattles and drives me crazy. When I turn on AC it rattles louder. It happened to be that the Exhaust Shield tore off from the screes. I think i hit a hugh piece of tire on Highway Simple $20. Fix. Mechanic bolted it back togetherv

My 2013 Corolla is making the same rattle noise like that and the same louder rattle noise when I turn on the AC. My co-worker, whose father is a car mechanic and works with his Dad from time to time, thinks it is the same thing. I did see the Exhaust heat shield visible under the car. I will bring it to a car repair shop tomorrow to fix it. Thanks.
