2013 Jetta Battery Dead but Radio is still on?

Asked by D. Luke Jul 28, 2017 at 09:37 AM about the 2013 Volkswagen Jetta SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Woke up for work this morning and my car wouldn't start.  Seems that the
battery had died, but I also cannot find my jumper cables to check.  But the
radio is on.  It turns off when I try to crank the car, but when I pull the key out in
the off position, the radio stays on?

The battery is not completely dead....it has enough juice to power the radio but not enough to crank the starter. Get the battery tested and replaced if necessary. Wouldn't hurt to get your alternator tested as well. The good news....your repair sounds like a simple $100 to $150 repair.

Thanks I had my battery replaced and it works fine now. Just thought it was super odd that the radio stayed on even if the car was turned off.

thats the thing about batterys and certain electricals of your car. A radio requires very little in the way of voltage but a starter or ac pump require a great deal of voltage to allow them to work.
