Trade In or Private Sell

Question type: Car Selling & Trading In

I have a Volkswagen Jetta base model se 4 cyl
with 55,000 miles on it. There is minor exterior
cosmetic damage, a dent in driver's door and
dent in rear on the trunk and a couple very minor
mechanical repairs like brake pads.  The loan pay
off is seven thousand dollars. I do not want a car
payment and currently have the funds to pay off
the loan. I do not love this car or think it's a great
car. My question is can/should try to take it to a
dealer and trade it in on a different car and would
I drive away with no car payment. Are dealer
willing to work with someone that want to leave
with no payment. Would it be best for me to sell
private party and then purchase a new used
vehicle? Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Compare what you owe on the car to trade in value. You will get more for if you sell it yourself. I doubt you could pay it off by trading it in.
