Roof weight capacity for 2013 Jetta Sportswagon TDI with panoramic sunroof?

Question type: Car Customization
I am considering purchasing a 2013 Jetta Sportswagon TDI with panoramic sunroof and have questions about using a roof rack to carry kayaks. With the rack and our two kayaks, we estimate the total weight will be around 150 lbs. Will this be okay? I can't find anything about max weight for the sunroof version of this vehicle. And what about towing? Anyone know the max towing weight is for this car?

VW should have base carrier bars listed for mounting the roof racks. I don't know the load capacity but 150# spread over the roof does not sound like all that much. A dealer or a VW forum could answer your question with certainty.
This one has a load rating of 165# --- http://www.rackoutfitters.com/new-volkswagen-jetta-sportwagen-with-thule- aeroblade-base-roof-rack/

The accessory pamphlet for the vehicle show kayak carrier mounts...I think you're fine. http://www.vw.com/content/medialib/vwd4/us/downloads/pd f/brochures/vw_fulllineaccessorybrochureflipbookjsw/_jcr_con tent/renditions/rendition.download_attachment.file/jswpublica tion.pdf
The weight of the kayak's is probably not a problem, however if one slips and hits the large glass roof it may very well shatter it. I would not get that model if I were carrying stuff on the room. I am not sure if you can even put a hitch on a Sportwagon but I would think you could tow 1000-1500 lbs. The engine has tons of torque.
From all my research cant find roof weight limitations 2013 vw Jetta sportwagen. If you have a tdi with the dsg transmission towing is rated at 0 lbs check owner's manual if it's a standard your closer to 1,500 lbs if your trailer has breaking assist you'll be right around 2,000 to 2,500 lbs
