Brake lights

Asked by GuruBZ41Q Dec 08, 2018 at 11:40 AM about the 1987 Toyota 4Runner 2 Dr SR5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Just noticed last night my brake lights were on when warming up my 87
4Runner at work. They were brighter than just the parking light glow. Did not
see them get brighter when applying brakes and when I got home, with lights
off, they did not come on while applying brake pedal. Bad brake switch
possibly?

Probably the brake light switch is stuck on all the time if the brake lights did not get brighter when you pushed the pedal. On an older vehicle, it might just be stuck "on" and penetrating oil may make it release.
