Question type: Maintenance & Repair

the car was hard to start in the mornings, but would eventually.  changed the air filter and
now it will not start at all.  The air filter in it was not the right one, replaced with new

Could be bad injection tips,if dirt made it a round previous filter. You may try spraying carb cleaner through it to see if it helps, but it may not solve it ether.Next would check fuel pump pressure, sound like you may have a weak fuel also,i only say that because of previous early morning trouble of cranking.

Just a thought here. Could be dirty/faulty idle air control valve or dirty throttle plate. Have you removed the air filter completely and tried to start it. If it then starts I would look at air flow. (Iac or throttle plate). The thought is if the old filter did not fit properly it could have been kinda like a vacuum leak and allowing just enough extra air so it would start with other two items being in need of attention. And new filter is restricting the air to its proper level. Just a thought.

A bad air flow sensor adjacent to the air filter could cause this problem. Are you sure you plunged the sensor in after replacing the air filter?
