1996 Neon headlights shutting off while driving

I have a problem with my headlights shutting off
randomly while i'm driving, it doesn't happen
extremely often but sometimes while i drive the
headlights will just turn themselves off while
leaving my parking lights on and i have to push and
pull the headlight knob (sometimes a few times) to
get them working again. I've messed with the wires
and had them turn off (can't get it to happen again
no matter how much i try but they turned off as i
pushed a wire up) and pulled the switch out and
checked it and it looks fine to the best of my
knowledge but it has to be an issue with the switch
right? I can't wait to hear back on this and finally
stop having to worry about randomly losing
visibility at night.
