mods for old school avengers
Asked by J5josher Oct 30, 2009 at 07:23 PM about the 1995 Dodge Avenger ES FWD
Question type: Car Customization
i got the 95 with the 2.5 v 6
well i hate the motor... i think everyone does...
no mods for it at all..
so i was thinking of putting the 2.0 liter I4 out of a 96+ that will bolt to the v6 tranny...
so i can get headers... turbo.... and everything else that the 4g63 has to offer...
Any of you tried this or not? does it work?

I've done quite a bit of experimental stuff to mine. I've found myself happiest with my 2.0L as crazy as it sounds. You have more wiggle-room under the hood, and you don't loose much of your jump. As you would already know, the Avengers tend to lag a bit when accelerating. It's just the way of the car... It's not a Farrari after all. However, the MPGs!!! AWESOME! And as you mentioned briefly, you can rip the HECK out of the engine with all of the extra space, and STILL get better mileage.
4g63 is a turbo eclipse engine, yes they are both 2.0 but they are VERY different engines. the I4 in an avenger is a 420a which is the non-turbo eclipse engine. the 5 speed + the 420a is faster that the v6. the v6 is only an automatic. that transmission is the a604 and it sucks. really bad. for the price, just find a 5 speed I4 instead of swapping it. Or do a Mitsubishi 3.0 swap in your v6. it's the 6g72 i think... anyway it's a pretty straight forward swap. add yourself to this forum and search around. http://www.aseclub.net aseclub stands for Avenger/Sebring Enthusiasts Club and you can find A LOT of information to help you out on there. tell them Big_Bad_Venge sent you lol.
