What is wrong with an 88 bronco 2 that will not make a sound, other then the fuel pump coming on, when you turn the key?

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My brother has an 88 bronco 2 that will not start when you turn the key. He has replaced
the starter solenoid and the fuel pump turns on but when he turns the key it wont even
crank.

I've had 2 where the ignition switch (not the key tumbler) had fallen appart in the stearing collumn. Be prepared to have to raplace a shorted out ECC (Computer).

Make sure it's either in park or neutral. My 89 bronco 2 has a linkage issue that is a little tricky, but kind of a fail safe. Literally try to start it in every gear. Mine will show that it's in reverse when it's in neutral, park is reverse. Everything shifted one notch.

CHeck out your relays. That will make them from wanting to start. Is it a Manuel transmission or automatica transmission
