i would like to know which type of tranny fluid to use. also where do you add the fluid to the truck. i have the transmission dipstick located

Most dodges have to take mopar tanny fluid wich many places car not just dealers you can fill the transmission throught the dip stick tube or the plug on the tranny your choice
you can use any brand transmission fluid as long as its ATF+2 or 3 ATF+4 doesnt blend up with the others because its slightly thicker and has some different wear ingredients in it, and you add the fluid right down the dip stick tube i recommend using a funnell that bends to keep from leaking all over the place
Use the mopar fluid these Chrysler transmissions are picky as can be and you’ll get in trouble (transmission problems) if you don’t use it. This is what I run in my 2003 dodge dakota and I’ve yet to have a transmission problem yet, also I recommend changing the filter when you do this. You’ll need a gasket and filter set oreillys or autozone should have some on deck.
Autozone does not carry the 42/44RE trans pan gasket. I did find one at Oreillys auto parts.

Older dakotas take reg 10w30 oil for trans
90dakotaman ... that's not true! ... I have owned 89, 92, 96 97, 2000 and 2004 dakotas and none of them used 10w30 in the transmission.
