I can't open the trunk on my 1998 BMW 740i. It won't open with key, trunk release button on the trunk, nor with the release button above the hood lever. What can I do?

I've tried the latch button inside the car above the hood release, I've tried the remote button, and I've tried to turn the key to the left and pushing the button in on the trunk after I unlock the doors, and I have also tried the remote button on the key. I don't even hear it trying to work.

Ok, I got it open by drilling a hole in the lid behind the license plate and pushed the cable to release the trunk but when it opened the latch on the lid closed and now the trunk won't close! Ughh! How can I get the latch to open back up? I've tried the key, the pushing in the trunk lid key button, the release button in the car above the hood release. Anything else I can try?

Ok, I now got it to close by taking the latch cover off of the trunk lid and lube it and manually opened the latch by inserting a screwdriver above and behind the latch to force the assist arm to open it and it worked. Now trunk opens and closes, no problem! Finally!
